MINERVA ROXY THEATER PRESENTS AN EVENING OF COMEDY WITH DENNIS REGAN
When Dennis Regan was young, he was on track to fulfill his dream of becoming an NFL quarterback. Unfortunately, he blew his knee out when he was in kindergarten. Dennis came down a little too hard on the teeter totter one day. Right then and there, Dennis realized he was going to have to find another way to make a living.
Dennis reassessed his skills and asked himself, “what are you good at?” The answers came easily. I liked daydreaming, goofing off, staring out the window, and cracking up my friends.
Okay, Dennis made up the part about being a quarterback. His knee is fine! The true story might not be quite as fascinating, but here it is:
Dennis Regan is a comedian. He wasn’t always though– He started doing stand-up comedy in his early thirties. Before that he had many different jobs, starting at age fourteen, he bussed tables, bagged groceries, killed bugs, threw luggage, waited tables, painted houses, worked construction, and ran a business just to name a few.
Dennis hit his first open mic night at Coconuts Comedy Club in north Miami in 1987. I did okay. Four months later, I won a local contest. A month after that, a club owner paid me $30 a set to do my ten minutes on the weekend. I loved it! I still love it! Can’t think of anything I would rather do for a living.
The next year Dennis moved to New York City. He began doing late night shows and started to break into the main line-up of all the important clubs: The Improv, The Comic Strip, The Comedy Cellar, Catch A Rising Star, and Dangerfields.
Dennis Regan has been on television dozens of times. Multiple appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He has also been on Showtime and Comedy Central. You probably would have seen him if you didn’t have 800 TV channels.
Dennis Regan has been doing comedy for over 20 years. He has headlined most of the major comedy clubs in the States. Dennis has traveled to every one of the 50 states except for maybe Arkansas. I don’t remember ever being in Arkansas. He has worked on cruise ships, colleges, Vegas, Atlantic City, traveled to China and Ireland.
